Making Room

To continuously pursue our faith walk takes intentionality, time and willingness to offer our life with open hands. I don’t know about you, but my instinct is to control. Making plans and successfully executing them brings me delight. However, what should bring me delight, joy and satisfaction more than anything else is knowing that what I am doing is what God has for me. It’s not enough to just sprinkle God into your life when you feel like it. God’s truth, God’s plan and the gospel HAS to be the foundation from which all other things flow. God’s Word and will should be informing what job I have, how I parent my children, the way I treat my spouse and so many more things. This all can often counter the way the world does things. The world often tells us to do more, be more, chasing worldly fixes. However, God will often call us back to Him. He will draw us in to find rest and restoration. It is only when we pause, pray and listen—allowing God to fill our hearts and minds—that we can live through the Spirit. Giving God room to work in our lives for His glory.

In recent weeks, a song called Make Room, has come to my mind. A reminder from my heavenly Father to slow down and let Him guide my steps. You can find the lyrics below. Take time to pause, take a deep breath and lift the words to Him. Open your heart and mind to anything He wants to do in your life. Prepare your heart to release anything He calls you to let go of.

Make Room: Song by Community Music, Elyssa Smith, and The Church Will Sing

Here is where I lay it down

Every burden every crown

This is my surrender

This is my surrender

Here is where I lay it down

Every lie and every doubt

This is my surrender

And I’ll make room for you

To do whatever you want to

Do whatever you want to

Shake up the ground of all my tradition

Breakdown the walls of all my religion

Your way is better

Your way is better

Here is where I lay it down

You are all I’m chasing now

This is my surrender
