Phone Call From God

If God called you would you answer? In today’s world we hardly even talk on the phone. Texting and shorthand conversations have become the norm. But if it was God calling, would you pick it up? The Biblical truth is that God is calling us—each of us. We have all been given our own unique personalities and skills to help us further God’s Kingdom. So are you ready to hear Him?

Are you prepared to answer the call?

1 Peter 3:15 ESV But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

Sometimes God has us in a holding pattern. He is trying to prepare us for the next steps on our faith walk. However, while we wait, we need to be preparing our heart and mind to jump into action when He calls. Here are the things we can do while we are waiting for the call.

  1. Stay in God’s Word-tend the fields of your faith, remembering how faithful God is and that He will provide in His timing.
  2. Pray-Ask Him to help your ears and heart to be ready to hear it when He speaks.
  3. Fellowship-Cultivate and engage in friendships with other believers who can help encourage you and possibly even be the voice of God reminding you to take the leap of faith when God says it’s time.
  4. Serve-Continue or start to look for opportunities to serve (even in small ways) and love others for God’s glory. Be prepared that God may use those moments to draw your hearts attention to certain people or things that He has prepared for you to do in His name.

Make sure you are prepared to hear the phone ring by having a phone—a relationship with God. And you’ll want to make sure you do not leave it on silent—stay active in your faith walk.

Has He already called you and you let it go to voicemail?

Matthew 28:19-20 NIV Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Did God already lay a calling on your heart but you have been hesitant to take that leap of faith? I have been there, and even tried to fight it for a long time thinking that it could not really be what God wanted from me. Sometimes we do not feel equipped, but He has promised to provide. Or sometimes we feel like we don’t know how to do it, but God will share the wisdom and knowledge needed as you take each step along the path.

I did not feel equipped to do what it was He was asking. It was also something I did not want to do nor had planned on doing. So I assumed God would not want me to pursue a career that I did not have a natural passion for. But do you know what happened when I finally listened to Him? He stirred in me a heart for the calling, not because it was something I had planned or wanted, but He emboldened me to follow it simply because He called me to. I learned to have a passion for it, because I have a passion to be a Christ follower.

Have you missed so many calls that you feel like He would be mad if you answered now?

1 Peter 5:10 ESV And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

It is never too late to step into who God has called you to be. God loves us, forgives us and gives us grace. He is faithful to provide the wisdom and direction you need to guide you back to His plans for your life. When you do, He will bless you more than you can ever imagine!

He calls each of us to use our talents and skills for His glory. We are each a piece of the mosaic that He is creating. All of us are chosen and formed for a specific calling to fit together to fulfill His purposes. So are you ready to answer the phone call from God?
